Stimulus Giveaway draws prize winners – supports Nova Scotia businesses for a second year.

Published in News Release

Bauld Insurance ran their Business Stimulus Giveaway contest for a second year to help boost Nova Scotia businesses. The Nova Scotia Business Stimulus Giveaway was available to any registered Nova Scotia business. From May 2 – June 24, businesses of all different types located throughout the province entered the contest.  After conducting the random prize winner draw and contacting the winners, Bauld Insurance can now announce the prize winners:

  • Grand Prize ($3,000): The Wedding Grove, Dartmouth
  • Runner-Up ($1,000): G&M Milling, Darling Lake
  • Runner-Up ($1,000): For You Newcomer Counselling, Halifax

The contest was brought back for a second year after a popular 2021 campaign. This year’s contest was made possible with the support of Wawanesa Insurance and Portage Mutual Insurance. “It has been a tumultuous few years for business everywhere. Despite all the challenges, Nova Scotia businesses showed just how resilient they are,” said Sean Murray, Vice President of Business Development, Bauld Insurance.  “An entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well here in Nova Scotia. With the help of Portage Mutual and Wawanesa, we just had to run this contest again and give these deserving businesses a little extra cash.”

Contest entrants needed to be a registered Nova Scotia business, leading to a broad range of entries from all industries. Through the random draw, as it was last year, the winners represented a range of business types – all very much deserving winners.

Meet the Winners

Ashley Grove from The Wedding Grove

Grand Prize Winner – The Wedding Grove. Ashley Groves and her partner moved to Halifax from Toronto in October 2020. Like many industries, pandemic restrictions pushed Ashley’s work as an event planner into digital-only formats. With parents originally from Cape Breton, she always had a strong connection to Nova Scotia. Knowing her job could be done virtually from anywhere, Ashley and her partner packed up and moved east, setting up in Dartmouth. Sensing an eventual return to live events, in November 2021, Ashley launched her wedding planning business. “Obviously, wedding events were limited for the last two years. There is pent-up demand for wedding events and parties; it’s going to be a busy summer,” said Ashley. Winning the grand prize was perfectly timed, as Ashley has dedicated herself to growing her fledgling business

Sharon and Gordon from G&M MillingRunner-Up Winner – G&M Milling. Located in Darling Lake, near Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Sharon Grey and her husband Gordon run an independent sawmill and firewood business. As an independent business, their wood products are available for private sale only, for use with exterior and non-residential building projects. Through the pandemic, there has been a high demand for wood products, leading to a booming operation. “We’ve never had to advertise, and we don’t even have a Facebook page. All our customers come from word-of-mouth; we really appreciate all their support and business,” said Sharon.

For You New Comers Counselling AgencyRunner-Up Winner – For You Newcomer Counselling Agency. For You Newcomer Counselling Agency helps overseas students and newcomers to Halifax settle into our Halifax community.  Owner, Iven He, said the company is committed to serving people from all over the world. However, its primary focus is on students coming to Nova Scotia from China, Japan and Korea. Their services include landing and getting settled, understanding our local rules and culture, and finding an apartment – a well-publicized challenge, especially in Halifax.

Congratulations to these worthy winners, and thank you to all those businesses that entered the contest!  Also, thanks to the Halifax Chamber of Commerce, the Lebanese Chamber of Commerce in Nova Scotia, and the Bedford Business Association for promoting the contest to their membership.  Visit our website for more details on our Business Insurance products and services.
